All iPhone 13s would have the LiDAR scanner

According to Digitimes, all iPhone 13s planned for 2021 would be entitled to the LiDAR scanner. So far it only exists on the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 mini are not entitled to it.

The first Apple device with a LiDAR scanner was the iPad Pro last March. According to Apple, it enables immersive augmented reality experiences. It is also used to measure the time it takes for light to reflect off objects. This data is used to create a depth map of the room.

The presence of the LiDAR scanner on all iPhone 13 definitely seems logical. After a few years, Apple often offers features from its Pro devices to non-Pro models. This can be seen on the OLED screen, which is now available on all iPhone 12s. For example, the iPhone 11 had an LCD screen.

The LiDAR scanner shouldn’t be the only novelty of the iPhone 13. In particular, the first rumors speak of a screen with a display of 120 Hz on some models (certainly the iPhone 13 Pro). In addition to the A15 chip and a less power-hungry 5G chip, better photo sensors would also be available. As in previous years, the new smartphones could be presented in September. 2020 was an exception because of the Covid-19.
