Good news for residents of Ile-de-France: the Navigo Pass will be available on iPhone in February. Apple’s smartphone can be used as a transport ticket.
Le Parisien reports that thanks to the Navigo Pass it is possible to buy tickets (single, weekly, monthly, environmental protection or Roissy or Orly ticket) on your iPhone. It was previously only available on Android smartphones. In addition, you can use your iPhone at the train access terminals. It works even when the iPhone is turned off. This function should be reserved for current iPhones (since iPhone XS).
There was already information suggesting that Navigo Pass for iPhone will be supported soon. A representative of the Vianavigo Lab, the group that manages the collaboration space of the Île-de-France Mobilités, had mentioned an arrival in the course of 2021. She hadn’t given a specific niche.
Why did Apple smartphones only have the Navigo Pass in February, long after Android smartphones? It’s mostly related to Apple and its blocking. The iPhone’s NFC chip has long been reserved for Apple Pay. Conversely, it is accessible to everyone on Android smartphones. But Apple has opened up a bit more for a while. This explains the late arrival of the Navigo Pass for iOS.
