IOS and Android users spent big bucks on the App Store and Play Store for Christmas 2020, hitting a record high of $ 407.6 million. According to the Sensor Tower, this has increased by 34.5% within a year.
Christmas spending on the App Store and Play Store accounted for 4.5% of total spending in December. Users invest more money in games than in apps. The games grossed $ 295.6 million, up from $ 232.4 million in 2019. The most popular title during the vacation was Tencent’s Arena of Valor, at $ 10.7 million alone. This corresponds to an increase of 205.7% within one year.
On the application side, revenue is $ 112 million compared to $ 70.5 million last year. The category that generated the most (aside from games) is entertainment. TikTok was the most popular app for Christmas at $ 4.7 million.
Further data concern the share of sales between the App Store and the Play Store. Apple’s application store was larger, accounting for 68.4% of its Christmas spending. This is noteworthy when we know that iOS’s share is significantly less than Android’s.
