Who should you believe? Sometimes the rumors point to a first iPad OLED (or mini-LED) in 2022, sometimes they announce a launch in early 2021. This time it is DigiTimes that holds on to it and “confirms” it. a release window for the first quarter of 2021. Apple would have managed to diversify its component chains, GIS would supply the touch panels for the 12.9-inch mini LED iPad Pro, and BOE would finally have received Apple’s approval for that Production of OLED panels for future iPhones.
A production-related source would have stated that the first iPad with mini LED screen should be marketed in the first quarter of 2021 (at best in a few weeks). DigiTimes’ information is in line with an earlier forecast by Ming Chi Kuo, who in turn plans to launch in the first half of 2021. Therefore, in all likelihood, Apple would skip the OLED step to go straight to the mini-LED. This screen technology is even more energy efficient than OLED, which would significantly increase the autonomy of the iPad Pro (and the next Mac line of Mx processors).
