Benchmarks for the Snapdragon 888, the chip with which high-end Android smartphones will be equipped from 2021, have arrived and are worse than the A14 from Apple. This chip is present in the iPhone 12.
In the Geekbench test, the Snapdragon 888 with a processor core scored 1,135 compared to 1,603 for the A14. In reality, Qualcomm’s chip is not the same as the iPhone 11’s A13, which scores 1,331 points.
In the test with all processor cores, the Snapdragon 888 achieved a score of 3,794 compared to 4,187 for the A14. For its part, the A13 receives 3,366. From 2019, Qualcomm’s chip does a little better than Apple’s.
In the GFXBench test, which focuses on the graphics, the Snadrapgon achieved 86 frames per second. For the iPhone 12 with the A14, this value rises to 102.24. IPhone 11s with the A13 are at 91.
Apple is therefore better than Qualcomm when it comes to raw performance. We now have to see whether the A14 manages to hold first place after a few minutes. Qualcomm has not yet announced the consumption of the Snapdragon 888, so it is difficult to know at this point who will win. However, according to AnantTech, Qualcomm can potentially beat Apple if its consumption is between 4 and 4.5W.
Still, the Snapdragon 888 is a huge step up from the Snapdragon 865. CPU performance is up 25% and GPU performance is up 35%.
